Indonesian as a national language must be preserved. The development of slang can threaten Indonesian if the user does not have a love of his own country's language. Slang can undermine the existence of Indonesian among the people. This study aims to explain how much influence the use of slang by adolescents has on Indonesian language skills under the rules. The explanation was obtained from the analysis and observation carried out carefully. Observations are based on the use of language in communication, the delivery of ideas or ideas both verbally and in writing, and other social relationships in interacting in public places. Indonesian use among students in its development has begun to be displaced by slang. Mixing slang with standard language creates a problem or oddity in language. The use of slang does not matter when relying on the nuances of familiarity it evokes. However, it would be nice if a person still had to know the limits to prevent an adverse impact on preserving the Indonesian language. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach by trying to skin social phenomena in an atmosphere occurring naturally without any other control.

INTRODUCTION

Indonesian is a national language whose function is to connect or as a communication medium that has an important role in delivering information. Accuracy in language will affect the truth of information. Therefore, discussing things that can harm the sustainability of the languagein this case, good and correct Indonesianshould be a topic that must be highlighted. Humans cannot live without language, and all human activities need language. Humans can express their intentions, share experiences, and improve their intellectual abilities through language. Language is the most important aspect of life that must be fulfilled properly. This means that language must be treated according to their respective positions. Code-mixing refers to the use of a single word from one language within the syntax of another (Rahimi, 2014). Mixing language codes will also cause confusion that interferes with the fluency of the language in carrying out its duties as a transmitter of information in the community (Safika, 2020).

The use of good and correct language is a consequence of a formal or official situation in the language environment. In communication words, removing the semantic differentiation that they encode is likely to be very detrimental. Insights along these lines have been presented in previous research (Brochhagen & Boleda, 2022). Thus, language must also pay attention to the situation and conditions experienced. Which language will be prioritized in a forum depends on the situation of the forum. Many difficulties become language problems, such as code-mixing, code-switching, integration, intervention, and the use of slang that are already rife in various written and spoken languages. This unfavorable situation led to the emergence of slang which quickly spread among the public, especially the D-3 Accounting Students at the Medan State Polytechnic. This shows that the influence of things related to existence always wins over other aspects.

Language variation or variety is one of the main topics in linguistic studies. These variations emerge based on the factors that influence them (Saddhono & Wijana, 2011). Sociolinguistics, which studies the variety of languages in society, is inseparable from the emergence of new languages that are popular and ingrained in society. Slang emerged because of the need for self-expression of the D-3 Accounting Students at Politeknik Negeri Medan and even others to show themselves in society. A person who uses slang often forgets that circumstances gradually fade his identity. Slang does not always have a negative connotation. However, it is true that if the existing boundaries are not properly maintained, it will go too far and cause a loss of appetite for the main language itself.

Previous study concerning the use of slang language show that the existence of slang is in fact highly distressing for Indonesian. On the other hand, prevention is impossible, particularly among children and teenagers. Because their psychological development necessitates that they be acknowledged by society, and one way to do so is by following the slang trend (Maulidiya, Wijaya, Adha, & Pandin, 2021). Moreover, students who utilize slang and acronyms in everyday communication commit an error in their usage of Indonesian. This can limit the growth and development of the Indonesian language, which will have an effect on the loss of the Indonesian language caused by slang in the past (Ridlo, et al, 2021).

Along with the times, the influence of using slang among D-3 Accounting Students at the Politeknik Negeri Medan is increasingly visible. Slang has become more prominent and familiar than Indonesian. A lack of love for the Indonesian language and a national identity makes a person speak at will. Thus, based on those phenomenon this study aims to acknowledge the use of slang language on D-3 Accounting Students at the Politeknik Negeri Meda. The use of slang, no matter what percentage, will still influence the existence of the Indonesian language, it is very important to explore love for one's language and country so that the strength to maintain the culture is firmly embedded even though one needs slang for existence and self-entertaining media.

METHOD

The main sources in qualitative descriptive research are actions and words. Apart from that, additional data can be obtained from documents, archives, and others. The data referred to in this study are the object under study, the reality used as a research process, including participants, the place of research, to events near the observations that have been made. All kinds of behavior and object interactions in research must be considered; whatever data collected will affect the final results of a study.

Qualitative research produces descriptive data in writing from the behavior of people who have been observed. The results from the whole place to get the data will determine this research's summary and conclusion. The method used in this study is a direct method used by researchers to investigate a problem that exists until it has been described in a previous study.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

There are many types of samples taken as a reference for this study. The sample or object of research is the D-3 Accounting Student at Politeknik Negeri Medan and is associated with other aspects outside the object. The existence of Indonesian can be seen from how durable the language is when entered by slang. Based on the data obtained, in the slang of the D-3 Accounting Student at Politeknik Negeri Medan, abbreviations or shortenings were found in the form of abbreviations, acronyms, combinations of abbreviations and acronyms and beheadings (Zakiah, 2018). Acronyms are one of the fastest factors in accepting slang among D-3 Accounting Students at Politeknik Negeri Medan. Abbreviations are considered practical and are more comfortable to use in conversation with peers. This convenience supports things that replace the main Indonesian language as the main slang.

The use of slang is not a serious threat to Indonesian because slang will grow along with the age development of the D-3 Accounting Students at Politeknik Negeri Medan (Setyawati, 2014). Along with the age and development of the times, the language will continue to experience changes and renewal. Slang languages may become part of the Indonesian language in the future. Panic always happens, but what must be maintained is how wisely we use the language according to its context and placement to maintain its boundaries. Slang should be used in non-formal situations where there are not too many disparities with Indonesian.

Language in society is influenced by the variety that is inherent there. Slang belongs to the informal or low variety. Language variation is divided into two: (a) high language variation (official) and (b) low language variation (Lestari, 2018). High language variety is used in official or formal forums. Daily conversations use common language variations, which increase the intimacy between speakers. In addition, there is also the use of semi-formal language variations in certain situations. Conversations that do not require familiarity do not need to use slang.

The existence of slang brings inequality in the communication process, which, in fact, experiences differences from vocabulary patterns to word meanings, which can lead to a different understanding of each listener (Setiawan, 2018). This can happen when the interlocutor is of different generations. A misunderstanding of intent can trigger an imbalance in communication. Slang will work best when used with interlocutors whose frequency and thoughts tend to be the same. Using slang is not always wrong because it can be adapted to the context of the conversation and the partner. Proper use will not harm the existence of Indonesian as the language of the nation's unity.

The development of the Indonesian language will continue even though many things hinder it directly or indirectly. The development of the Indonesian language is not only determined by language experts or critics but is also influenced by its users, namely its use in various sectors (Mursito, 2007). Language users are all elements of society that have different characteristics. This is what causes aspects of language development to become increasingly complex. The increasing number of discussions in a language study can lead to an inadequacy if it is not carried out as well as possible. The language used in certain sectors should be applied properly without being added or subtracted by languages besides it.

Social media is the most fertile place for the growth of slang. The use of social media tends to be in a relaxed context so that people always use language that makes them more stylish as their true self-existence will be able to kill the existence of their own nation's language. Slang on social media, one of which is Facebook, is commonly called alay (slang). In Slang language, D-3 Accounting Students at Politeknik Negeri Medan are free to abbreviate the language according to their wishes (Rendrasari, 2013). People are often not aware of or even ignorant of what will be the impact of their habits in language. The little done concerning language will certainly have an effect that could be enlarged.

Individuals do not live in an objective world, not only in the world of social activities, as they usually understand, but are largely determined by certain languages , which are the medium of expression for their people (Gunawan, 2014). Habits that are carried out continuously can inevitably become ingrained and become very difficult to break. The last step that can be done is to absorb the slang terms formed by the D-3 Accounting Student at Politeknik Negeri Medan into Indonesian words. A lengthy process can make possible something that was originally very unsuitable.

The love of language should be instilled strongly in Indonesian children early. The provision of good love can minimize contamination of the Indonesian language in daily use. The fading of the use of Indonesian, especially among D-3 Accounting students at Politeknik Negeri Medan, is the impact of the lack of awareness to love and get used to using Indonesian in the country (Sari, 2015). Love for the Indonesian language can be fostered by getting used to using it according to the context in which it is presented.

Language occurs when community activities occur. Where community activities occur, there are also language activities (Oktaviani, 2014). In other words, language is formed because of people's daily activities. Language can develop along with the development of the community of its users. The community is responsible for developing the Indonesian language in the future. Not only do experts and scientists have to think about where to take Indonesian, which has been mixed with slang, but the community, especially D-3 Accounting students at Politeknik Negeri Medan, also has a very important role of cooperation in it. Cooperation between the community and all parties to maintain the Indonesian language.

The existence of technology, which is a fairly large tool in the world of existence because it reaches all parts of the world, will be able to function properly if people want to see it from all sides. Technological advances are ideally used to maintain language and culture, not the other way around (Gunawan, 2015). The best possible use will be an advantage, but the opposite will happen if not. Profit or loss depends on society's technique in dealing with today's technological developments. Technology must be used beautifully to benefit, not the negative things are taken away. Wisdom in technology will also make this nation more advanced and towards achieving the ideals of the Indonesian nation to advance.

Everyone must have a variety of languages that they often do not realize (Wijiasih, 2016). Variety in language The students of D-3 Accounting at Politeknik Negeri Medan form a slang term that cannot be avoided. Speakers do not consistently use a variety of slang (RBG) because slang can be said to be a seasonal language (Theodora, 2013). Slang can disappear by itself and be adopted as a term in Indonesian. Slang is a popular language that will disappear over time. The survival of a slang term for how long is determined by its existence in everyday use by the people who use the language.

The choice of language made by a multilingual community is determined by various factors and has certain social meanings (Saddono, 2006). Slang may fall into a separate language category in addition to the community language that has been used previously. Language errors can also occur due to language contact (Saddhono, 2012). Language contact can lead to creating a new language that did not exist before. The meeting of two speech partners who differ in their use of language will cause a mixture of the two languages. This is not necessarily certain but only needs to be watched out for.

Today's awareness of maintaining and preserving the mother tongue is fading. Many are more proud of foreign languages , which are considered more global and moderate (Anis & Saddhono, 2016). Therefore, it is necessary to realize how important it is to preserve the language that has become our identity as Indonesian citizens. Indonesia should be a source of pride, which has become an impossibility that every Indonesian citizen cannot.

CONCLUSION

Based on the analysis of the data above, it can be concluded that slang has a strong influence on the development of Indonesian society. The main supporters of the existence of slang are the D-3 Accounting Students at the Medan State Polytechnic. The growth of slang in Indonesian is unavoidable. Technology that is getting easier is also one factor that supports the mixing of slang in the use of Indonesian people. Slang does not always have a bad connotation, but if it is not used with control, it will cause a shift in the position of Indonesian, and it may be replaced by slang suddenly. When slang has been used continuously, people may carry it even in formal situations. Mixing official language with slang can not be avoided, intentionally or unintentionally. This problem should be solved by instilling a love for the Indonesian language early in children. Love for the Indonesian language will make it easier for a person to keep it embedded in his mind so that he will not be confused by other languages that appear in the midst of it.
